Do you have Public Liability Insurance for horse riding?We have Public Liability Insurance If a certificate of currency is required, please call or email us We recommend you have your own ambulance cover and personal accident insurance. We recommend travel insurance for overseas visitors. Please note: you need to be aware that you must be responsible for your own health and safety. Uncle Nev's will plan to provide as safe an experience as possible within this adventure environment.

I am a tour operator looking to book a group.Thank you for your enquiry As we are a small organisation, we cannot service the volume that tourist operators require. We provide a high-risk activity and understanding instruction and English communication is paramount. We take bookings of up to 5 inexperienced riders however they must be over the age of 10 years old We assess suitability through a phone conversation to assist clients with this activity. Dealing with a third party loses the vital link in preparation. If your client would like to ring us direct on 03 5783 1310 we can see if we can manage their needs.

Is there a weight restriction to ride a horse?As a guide, 95kgs is our recommended limit. Call us to discuss options if you are over this limit. We do make exceptions depending on horse availability and rider capability.

Can my child come for a ride?We welcome children 10 years and over, we recommend children have adult accompaniment We have several child friendly horses for various stages of riding. Due to safety reasons, you are not able to ride tandem, only one person per horse can ride. Ride prices are the same for children unless you book as a family and claim a family discount.

Is there car parking available?yes, we have a designated car parking area. Easy access at the top of the driveway. Please ensure you lock your car before visiting the office.

What if I am traveling solo?No problem at all! Many of our riding guests travel solo, which creates a wonderful opportunity to meet a diverse group of like-minded, horse-loving individuals. Whether you're a seasoned rider or new to the trails, you'll find that our welcoming environment fosters camaraderie among guests. Our experienced guides and friendly horses are dedicated to making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. We take pride in creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere where everyone can connect, share stories, and enjoy the beauty of the trails together.

Do I need to book and how do I make a booking?Bookings are essential to ensure your ride is available on your requested date. How to Book Phone Contact 03 5783 1310 and speak to us. Please leave a message if there is no answer. NOTE: you will not be booked until a confirmation is received from an office staff member. What happens on the day?When you arrive at Uncle Nev's Please park your car in the designated parking area between the house and the fenced off stable area. Go to the office located beside the large shed. please ensure you lock your car before going to the office. Once you arrive you will be asked to sign rider application and waiver forms if not already provided. You will then be assisted by our friendly staff for a safety check which includes fitting you with a accredited riding helmet. If you have brought your own helmet you will be asked to to show the staff members to ensure it meets the safety requirements. A brief check of your footwear, should your footwear not be safe to use for riding. don't worry Uncle Nev's have some boots in the office for you to use. Uncle Nev's also has a small selection of coats should there be a shower of rain and Sunscreen should the sunshine bright. water is also available in the office should you need a quench your thirst. Once you are signed in and you have your safety gear check and you are set. You are free to wait under the tree waiting for a ride guide to mount you up. It is suggested during this time to visit the toilet which is located in the green shed behind the office building. A friendly guide will ask you for your riding history and you will be matched with your horse to ride. Remember your horses name, once you are on your horse you will have an on horse safety check where your stirrups will be adjusted for your comfort and safety. Note a staff member may ask you to move your legs and give assistance where required. Once everyone is on their horse, you ride into the hills. At any stage before you ride of or during the ride please let us know if you have any concerns. check that you have even pressure in your stirrups and notify us if you are feeling unbalanced. keep your hands holding the reins at all times. After the first part of the ride you will stop for tea coffee and light refreshments. (2 and 3 hour rides only) After the break you will will remount you horse and have a quick safety check before heading back to Uncle Nev's you will arrive back at Uncle Nev's yard and you are required to stay on your horse until our friendly guide assists you to get off. What do I wear to go horse riding?Just wear long trousers, sleeved shirt, enclosed shoes. We’ll supply helmets. We’ll also supply boots if required, so pack some socks if you aren’t wearing any. When it comes to horse riding, choosing the right footwear and clothes is essential for safety, comfort. Here are some of the best types of shoes to wear: BOOTS Riding Boots Tall Riding Boots: These are designed to provide support to the leg and keep the lower leg in place. They often have a smooth sole to help with stirrup use. Paddock Boots: Ankle-high boots that are comfortable and versatile. They are often worn with half chaps for added protection and style. Western Boots Western Riding Boots: These boots have a high shaft and a slight heel, which helps prevent the foot from slipping through the stirrup. They are typically made from leather. CLOTHES Long jeans or pants for your comfort you will be sitting on leather. Long Sleeve shirt for sun protection. Key Features to Look For: Heel: A heel is essential to prevent your foot from sliding through the stirrup. A heel height of about 1/2-1 inch is generally recommended. Sturdy Sole: A smooth, sturdy sole allows for better grip in the stirrups. Comfort: Look for boots that provide comfort and support, especially if you'll be riding for extended periods. Water Resistance: If you ride in wet conditions, consider waterproof materials to keep your feet dry. Avoid: ❌ Running Shoes: These do not provide as much support ❌ High Heels: only made for the dance floor ❌ Thongs, Flip-Flops, Slip on Shoes: completely inadequate and offer no protection ❌ Shorts: These do not provide protection for your legs from the saddle rubbing ❌ Skirts: Not suitable If you do not have suitable footwear Uncle Nev's has a selection of boots for riders to use.

What if I have not ridden a horse before?Don't worry our friendly guides will assist you before mounting the horse and during the ride. we provide great experience for all riders regardless of previous experience. What happens in rainy or hot weather?Rides at Uncle Nev's Trail Rides usually continue in rainy weather, with wet weather jackets available for use. However, if conditions are very stormy, such as during thunder and lightning, rides may be restructured or rescheduled. If the ride is canceled due to severe weather conditions, we will offer to reschedule or refund. Severe hot weather will be treated the same as severe stormy weather.

What type of horses do you have?We offer a large variety of horses All of our horses are a carefully selected mix of Standardbreds, Thoroughbreds, Stock breeds and mixed breed They are fit and experienced trail horses. We cater for all riding abilities, offering horses that range from calm to slightly more spirited. We match you to your horse considering your confidence and ability to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.
